Insuring Lawn Tractors and ATV’s Have you ever taken your lawn tractor across the street to help mow the neighbor’s yard? What about using an ATV on your premises to maintain your property? What if you take that ATV off your premises? Most people wonder if they have the proper coverage under their homeowners policy, so with spring approaching we thought this would be a great time to review these coverage’s. A homeowners policy provides personal liability coverage for use of lawn tractors or ATV’s only if the vehicle is used on the insured premises and solely to service the residence. Coverage vanishes forever once it is used off premises, even if you borrow it to someone else and they take it off premises. So how does an individual obtain coverage for use of these vehicles off premises? A separate recreational vehicle policy can be purchased to provide liability and physical damage coverage for the ATV. As for the lawn tractor, most insurance companies will not provide coverage if used off the insured premises because the tractor can not be licensed for road use. Please contact your agent should you have any questions or concerns regarding this coverage.
